Video Killed The Radio Star, an anniversary.

You can imagine my surprise when Substack featured this tadpole of a publication on their homepage along with the big fish! Hello new subscribers, welcome to my little corner of the virtual world… 3 months old today!

Meanwhile today is also two years since releasing the video of Video Killed The Radio Star. It’s all a bit hazy, but I believe I started 2020 out in Italy, recording with JF and our brilliant friends The Burning Hell in a villa in a village near Rome. A villa in a village, now there’s a tongue-twister. Our memories of that time — not only because it was minutes before the pandemic hit — have taken on mythical proportions. Morning fog, midnight card games, sleepy market squares, endless minestrone soup, makeshift drumkits…

We hear the playback and it seems so long ago.

The fruits of this Italian recording trip will finally present themselves in the first JF & Lail duo album later this year. More on that in due course. Meanwhile, here’s our cover of The Buggles smash hit, which we recorded and filmed in two hours on our final afternoon, before eating accidental quantities of pasta.
