A story: one of my best friends and I heard Someone New when it came out. We loved it. We saw you play at a folk night at The Slaughtered Lamb in Farringdon in 2010 I think, or maybe 2011. Someone New was like the soundtrack to our friendship, right up until Pauline died in 2021. Turns out it’s still our soundtrack because every time I hear it I think of her. 🩶
Oh Jo, I’m so sorry to learn about your friend. Amazing the way music works, and to think that somehow my old songs remind you of her. Thank you for sharing this. I remember that show x
17 years! My goodness. I heard you play this live in some basement venue (I think?) in London around 2008-ish, and it is lodged in my memory - still regularly return to it, and that entire album. The experience of having to pare back the inappropriate songs from the bedtime repertoire is also very familiar with my just-turned-4-year-old here :)
Some basement around 2008 sounds about right! Amazing it's stayed with you all these years... think I'll play it at our Christmas show... come down if you're still in London and can get a babysitter!
Unfortunately I am living in Toronto now, so it might be a tad far to travel :) But best of luck with the show - I will tell my sister, as she may be interested to know!
Lovely song. Appropriate also,as we were just pummeled by .02” of rain here. Winter brutal. What a coincidence we are having an election here on Tuesday also. Music tonight then phone banking next two days.
Hearing you play this made me quite emotional.

Please do! And hopefully we'll play Toronto again next year!

We’ll be thinking of you on Tuesday. Keep warm.
Love this song ♥️
Thank you 💛
Definitely one of my desert island disks-
winter and any other season too .
🏝️💛
Soft explanatory voice as compelling as singing one!
Sore throat for added effect!
An alluring effect, actually - still a far cry from Janis…
Cryyyyyyyy Baby!
